Orphan Train to Kansas

This is a FAMILY PRODUCTION and we are inviting all family members (ages 6 and up) and alumni to participate. (Younger well-behaved siblings who can follow directions may also be invited to participate after our initial casting.) We have several smaller adult roles for those parents looking to have a family theater experience. Additionally, parents will be asked to help with set build, tear down, and some show night responsibilities.

Storybook Theatre

Storybook Theatre will be a day of learning all about theater. This mini-camp will be for 6 & 7 year olds and any 8 year old who hasn’t done theater with us before. The kids will learn about character development, staging, blocking, props, costumes, and set building. At the end of our action packed day, the kids will perform for friends and family. They will act our the scenes from a beloved children’s story.

HGP Theatre Camp

Join us for a wonderful week of learning and theatre fun! Ages 8 and up are invited to a 4 day camp from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday with a final performance on Thursday, June 22nd at 3:30 p.m.! Campers will learn basic acting, staging, set building, and costuming skills all while participating in a thrilling show! Camp fees are the low price of $25 and each camper will receive a t-shirt.

Honk Jr. Auditions

Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.

Murder on the 518 Saturday Show

All the usual suspects and a flexible cast of extras make this airtight murder mystery perfect for schools, colleges, and community theatre programs.

Red-eye travelers on the westbound 518 are in for a surprise when first one passenger, and then another, mysteriously drop dead right before their eyes — and just as the train is halted by a rock slide in an isolated canyon. Because the pair appears to have been poisoned, anyone and everyone in the train dining car is a suspect!

Unable to call for help, the eccentric passengers — including two newlyweds, an astronomy professor, a sports recruiter, a CEO, a movie star, an aspiring musician, and others — try to work together with the waitstaff to find the murderer before they reach their destination and the killer escapes for good! Unfortunately, not everything (or everyone) is as it seems.

Murder on the 518 Auditions

Students homeschooling in accordance with Ohio Revised code and between the ages of 12 and 18 (as of Feb. 17, 2023) are invited to audition for our upcoming winter production “Murder on the 518”. No prepared pieces are necessary and all roles are available and open at auditions. For more information on the script, go to Pioneer Drama where you can see the cast descriptions and plot summary. There is a minimum of 19 cast members and a maximum of 28 that have speaking parts. 

Please print and bring an audition form (green sheet) with you on Nov. 29 at 4pm. 

A schedule of rehearsals is available on this page. Please check it with your calendar before signing your green sheet. While we may be flexible with some rehearsals for some characters, all cast members are expected for dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals, and performances. Green Sheet is available for printing here

2022 Theater Camp

Homegrown Players Theater Camp is open to any student being homeschooled in accordance with Ohio Revised Code. Students must be 8 years old before June 1, 2022 and may not be older than 18 or have graduated from high school. At HGP Theater Camp students will have a complete production experience including the how tos of auditioning, developing character, rehearsing, costuming, set building (and striking) all culminating in a performance on Friday. There are opportunities for parts with many lines, few lines, and even no lines. Campers will provide their own lunches and water each day. All campers will receive a t-shirt.

Camp will run Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm ending on Friday with a performance open to all. Students will be excused from camp when we have completed striking the show. Performance will be available to video record.

When a pair of bungling smugglers comes looking for a stolen necklace hidden inside one of the books, the characters are torn. Should they warn Margie and risk disappearing forever? Or can they find a way to defeat the crooks without being seen?

This charming musical will enchant audiences young and old.

Under the Sea Storybook Theater

This workshop is $10 per child.

As narrators read from famous under-the-sea books, such as Rainbow Fish, the children will learn to act out the story. The kids will have a great day of theatre games, learning the stage, trying on costumes, and more. At the end of the one day adventure, all the kids will have a chance to perform for friends and family.

Please pack a healthy lunch and snacks for each child. (Please no soda or candy). If each child can wear all black or solid colors, it will be very helpful in costuming the children for the performance.
